Criticism within the party is growing for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who has not been able to achieve a successful performance in every election he has entered as the leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP).
Change demands continue to be directed towards Kılıçdaroğlu, who failed to present a successful outcome in the presidential and parliamentary elections held in May.
According to a news article by journalist Altan Sancar from Diken news portal, Ekrem İmamoğlu has proposed an honorary presidency to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu for the ‘change’ process.
It has been reported that the topic of honorary presidency was discussed during the meeting between Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), and Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
During their meetings, İmamoğlu proposed to Kılıçdaroğlu, “Let’s initiate a process of change together. I am ready to take on my responsibilities during this process, and I suggest that you, as the honorary president of our party, play a unifying and influential role as our elder.”
Initially, Kılıçdaroğlu seemed receptive to this idea and agreed on the parliamentary group with İmamoğlu. However, when it came to determining the Central Executive Committee (MYK), the lack of influence from İmamoğlu led to the end of their discussion.
CHP members interpret the final MYK formed by Kılıçdaroğlu as a breakdown of relations. It is emphasized that the tension within the party has not escalated yet, and both sides will try to shape the process based on the balance of delegates.
