A farmer in the southeastern Turkish province of Adıyaman discovered a fish fossil by chance while hiking.
Adıyaman Museum officials determined that the fish fossil is about 15 million years old, belonging to the Middle Miocene Period.
Museum Director Mehmet Alkan said in a statement that fish fossils are generally seen in places where lake and river sediments are formed.
Alkan said, “The fish fossil on the rock is about 8 centimeters long, its capillaries and fins are clearly visible. This fossil is dated to about 15 million years ago. It appears as a very important fossil. It will be presented to the visitors to be exhibited in the exhibition in later periods.”
