The claim that talks are underway with the Qatar Investment Authority for the sale of Galataport has surfaced

The businessman Ferit Şahenk is alleged to have engaged in discussions with the Qatar Investment Authority for the sale of Galataport in Istanbul. According to sources speaking to Bloomberg, Şahenk plans to utilize the proceeds from a potential sale of Galataport, for which he obtained a 1.02 billion euros (1.1 billion dollars) loan for its construction, to repay the loan.

Sources indicate that the discussions are in their early stages and might not necessarily lead to an agreement.

The Galataport project, a 1.7 billion-dollar cruise port built by Doğuş Holding and Bilgili Holding, opened in 2021 after several delays. The port aimed to host an average of 25 million visitors and accommodate 1.5 million passengers annually.

Doğuş, Bilgili, and the Qatar Investment Authority have not provided comments on the matter.

After selling his stake in Garanti Bank to the Spanish BBVA for approximately 5 billion dollars, Şahenk shifted his focus to hotel, marina, and restaurant investments.

In recent years, Doğuş Holding, which had struck restructuring deals with banks, aimed to bolster its cash position. In 2020, Doğuş sold a 30% stake in Istinye Park to the Qatar Investment Authority.
