The Istanbul police seized 2,295 gold, silver, and bronze coins, along with 44 arrowheads, in an operation targeting historical artifacts. The seized items are believed to date back to the Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman periods.
Two individuals who were planning to sell the historical coins were detained by the police.
In the operation conducted by the Istanbul Directorate of Security’s Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Unit, it was determined that certain historical artifacts had been illegally transferred within the country and were being sold to third parties, with the intention of smuggling them out of the country.
Simultaneous operations were carried out at identified addresses in Esenler, Esenyurt, and Sancaktepe, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
During the searches conducted at the addresses, a total of 2,295 gold, silver, and bronze coins, believed to date back to the Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman periods, along with 44 arrowheads, were seized.
