The short-term external debt continues to rise

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey has released the short-term external debt data for May.

According to the data published by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), the stock of short-term external debt reached $165.6 billion by the end of May, reflecting an increase of 11.1% compared to the end of 2022.

During this period, the short-term external debt stock originated from banks increased by 4.3% to $64.9 billion, while the short-term external debt stock of other sectors rose by 4.1% to $56.3 billion.

The short-term external debt stock calculated based on remaining maturity using data for debts with a duration of 1 year or less amounted to $207.3 billion. Thus, a record level was reached in this category.
