The Presidential Communications Directorate’s Center for Combating Disinformation denied the claim that ‘the US was asked for support for IMF aid’

The Center for Combating Disinformation of the Presidential Communications Directorate reported that the allegations that “the US was asked for support to hold talks with the IMF after the elections” were not true.

The Center for Combating Disinformation issued a statement on the allegations that the government asked for US support for the IMF.

In the statement, it was stated that the allegations shared by some media outlets and social media accounts that “the government asked the US for support to negotiate with the IMF after the elections” are not true.

The statement read as follows: “Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek held a bilateral meeting with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen within the scope of the G20 Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Brazil, where regional and global economic developments were discussed. There was no topic related to the IMF in the meeting. In his bilateral meetings, Minister Şimşek exchanged views on issues to strengthen relations and cooperation with multilateral development banks and countries.”

In the statement, it was requested not to rely on speculative news that were deliberately circulated to create insecurity and uneasiness in the markets.
