Rosatom in talks for second nuclear power plant in Turkey

Alexei Lihachev, Director General of the Russian State Nuclear Power Corporation, announced that they are in talks with the Ministry of Energy for the construction of a second nuclear power plant in Turkey.

Speaking at the State Duma, the lower house of parliament in Russia, Alexei Lihachev, Director General of the Russian State Nuclear Power Corporation, said: “It was clearly stated that a political decision was made to entrust us with the construction of the new power plant.” He underlined that very active negotiations are taking place with the Turkish side on the new nuclear power plant.

Both sides discussed the technical details, management system and economic parameters of the project, and Lihachev said that the site in Sinop allows the construction of a “twin” of the Akkuyu NPP.

For Rosatom, the issues of management and financing of the project have yet to be resolved.
